What Apila keeps

• Your email address, so you can sign in and so your pages follow you between phone and laptop.
• Your language choices (what you're learning, what you speak).
• The words from your pages: the word, its translation, the example sentence, and the date. These wait in your account until you send them to Anki, and stay afterwards so we can tell you when a word was sent before.
• A count of pages you've uploaded, with the date, so we can keep the free limits fair.

What happens to your photos

Your photo is sent to our server, read once by an AI service, and then discarded. We do not keep the photo. Only the words come back.

Two exceptions, both under your control:

• If you press “Report a problem” on a page, that one photo is sent to us so we can see what went wrong.
• If you have agreed to take part in a pilot test, your photos are kept for 30 days so we can check how well the app reads real pages, then deleted. We ask you first, in person.

Who else handles your data

• Railway hosts the server and the database, in the European Union.
• Resend sends the sign-in emails.
• Anthropic provides the AI that reads your page. Photos are sent to it for reading only; it does not use them to train its models.

No advertising, no analytics trackers, no selling of anything to anyone.

Deleting everything

On the main page there is a link: Delete my account and everything in it. It removes your email, your pages, your words and your usage counts immediately. Cards you already imported into Anki are yours and stay in Anki.

Age

Apila is for learners aged 14 and over.

Terms, in one line

Apila is free and provided as it is, with care but without guarantees. If it reads a word wrong, you can fix it before it becomes a card.
